Summary

Outside a remote manor house in an idyllic wood, a baby girl is found。

The Harrington family takes her in and disbelief quickly turns to joy。 They're grieving a terrible tragedy of their own and the beautiful baby fills them with hope, lighting up the house's dark, dusty corners。 Desperate not to lose her to the authorities, they keep her secret, suspended in a blissful summer world where normal rules of behaviour - and the law - don't seem to apply。

But within days a body will lie dead in the grounds。 And their dreams of a perfect family will shatter like glass。
Years later, the truth will need to be put back together again, piece by piece 。 。 。

From the author of Black Rabbit Hall, The Glass House is a emotional, thrilling book about family secrets and belonging - and how we find ourselves when we are most lost。

The Glass House- Told from the POV of three characters across two time zones, each with a secret。 Throughout the story the secrets entwine and the plot thickens to a end that seems very rushed。 I felt like a few parts of the story didn’t need to be there and I was expecting more twists as there was a murder involved。 Disappointingly, I had predicted most of the plot twists and there was a lack of suspense。

I devoured Eve Chase's first two books in days。 They were page turners, sharp, to the point without lacking colour and moving。I was so excited to pick up Daughters of Foxcote Manor hoping for that same style but was so disappointed to see she was trying a new style of writing; one with over descriptive metaphorical/simile prose that by the time you finish her sentence you forget the point she's trying to make。 In addition, she made this novel a bit of a slow-burn which upon finishing I believe s I devoured Eve Chase's first two books in days。 They were page turners, sharp, to the point without lacking colour and moving。I was so excited to pick up Daughters of Foxcote Manor hoping for that same style but was so disappointed to see she was trying a new style of writing; one with over descriptive metaphorical/simile prose that by the time you finish her sentence you forget the point she's trying to make。 In addition, she made this novel a bit of a slow-burn which upon finishing I believe she could have edited down a few chapters。 This is why I gave it four stars - I hope she goes back to her old style of writing。HOWEVER, it was well worth sticking through because it was a beautiful, compelling, emotional story that really did paint a picture of the 1970s, passion, love, mystery, elite class privilege and secrets。 Her penchant for storytelling did not lose it's power in her new style and you feel that tug of the heartstrings and being thrown into another life by the end of her book。 WOULD RECOMMEND and implore you to stick through。 。。。more

3。5 stars, slow start almost DNF, however please persevere as after chapter 19 the book gets much more interesting and the final twist at the end you will not see coming。

A really good book, took a couple of chapters to really get into the story but once I did I couldn't put it down。 A really good book, took a couple of chapters to really get into the story but once I did I couldn't put it down。 。。。more

Beautifully written - captivating!I can't recall when I last read a novel so elegantly constructed and eloquent。 The story of four strong women and their feminine power, winding delicately through their lives like a path winding through the forest at the heart of the book itself had me rivetted start to finish。 I'm now going to buy a hard copy so I can feel as physically involved in the story as I was emotionally, and that's a real first。 Read this now! 2。5)The book took me a long time to get through because I found myself uninterested in what was happening to the point where a huge development/reveal would occurre it didnt grab or excite me。 However, I did enjoy Rita, the main character and her journey。

Good readI won’t spoil the story for anyone else, but I enjoyed this book, plenty of great content and twists, relatable characters and a good plot

This is a book to get comfortable and immerse yourself in these great characters who all felt very real to me。 Jumping back and forth between the 70's and the present and told by three of the characters, the story is not so much a mystery as how an unexpected event changes lives。 Although I felt the ending, or rather the summing up, was a bit contrived it couldn't have been done any other way。 I loved this book and really didn't want it to end。 This is a book to get comfortable and immerse yourself in these great characters who all felt very real to me。 Jumping back and forth between the 70's and the present and told by three of the characters, the story is not so much a mystery as how an unexpected event changes lives。 Although I felt the ending, or rather the summing up, was a bit contrived it couldn't have been done any other way。 I loved this book and really didn't want it to end。 。。。more

Savoured。 Every。 Word。I just love when you stumble on a new author and you begin reading their book and are simply blown away。Reminiscent of early Kate Morton books, Eve Chase is now a benchmark for my own writing。 I cannot tell you how much of this book I highlighted simply because it was so sublime and I learned so much from it。。。I only hope one day to be a fraction as good 😌

Truly enjoyed this suspenseful family mystery。 The alternating POVs slowly weaving the threads of these women's lives together made for a very gripping read and the writing is just beautiful, so atmospheric and descriptive that now I'm desperate to visit the Forest of Dean! I just kept getting distracted, going back to read only to get distracted and I decided to quit。 Nothing about this book spoke to me。 I had zero emotional connection to these people。 I was especially not interested in Hera's POV because I felt it added nothing。 Maybe one day I'll return to it。 I just kept getting distracted, going back to read only to get distracted and I decided to quit。 Nothing about this book spoke to me。 I had zero emotional connection to these people。 I was especially not interested in Hera's POV because I felt it added nothing。 Maybe one day I'll return to it。 。。。more

A fabulous page turner!I so enjoyed this book with its odd mixture of characters, locations and events, chronologically fitting together like a jigsaw。 Emotions delicately handled and explained。

Very intertaining story。 Kept me wondering what was going on, and hard to put down。 Has a surprise ending。

Enjoyed reading overall, but was slow and the book didn’t leave me with a lasting impression。

I've really liked Eve Chase's other books, and this one certainly created that same atmosphere of a hidden country house and old secrets being discovered。 This book, though, felt like it was overdone with too many secrets and too many convoluted relationships between the characters。 I've really liked Eve Chase's other books, and this one certainly created that same atmosphere of a hidden country house and old secrets being discovered。 This book, though, felt like it was overdone with too many secrets and too many convoluted relationships between the characters。 。。。more

Such a refreshing read! (Especially after the abomination I read prior) Some twists and turns that I did not see coming! All in all, a very pleasant read ☺

Thoroughly enjoyable read, one slightly predictable twist at the end but otherwise kept me gripped throughout。

Loved the characters, all very interesting。 Loved the mother/daughter bonds in both time lines。 Such a dark story which tied up all a bit too nicely at the end。 One big happy family。 Though that might be me, I do seem to have a problem with book endings。 Not often completely satisfied。 Apart from that I really enjoyed it。

Great read for the atmosphere & tension created。 Some thoroughly unlikable characters & others who you would love to have in your life!

Surprisingly good。 Not sure why my expectations were low but they were。 It is, ultimately, a bit contrived but, as those contrivances slowly unfolded, there was a pleasure in the story pulling together。 I was concerned about the negative male characters (or not even interesting enough to be negative) but they came good in the end (no pun intended) and it was, after all, a story about a family, or two families, of women。 Really well written with solid characterisations and some extraordinary desc Surprisingly good。 Not sure why my expectations were low but they were。 It is, ultimately, a bit contrived but, as those contrivances slowly unfolded, there was a pleasure in the story pulling together。 I was concerned about the negative male characters (or not even interesting enough to be negative) but they came good in the end (no pun intended) and it was, after all, a story about a family, or two families, of women。 Really well written with solid characterisations and some extraordinary descriptive stuff。 It was also a bit of a who-done-it and I never guessed that bit either。 In fact, the nitty gritty of what it was all about, when revealed at the end, was something of a revelation (as it's meant to be)。Glad I read this。 The backwards and forwards of the plot (1971 - present) wasn't nearly so much a problem as some reviewers make out。 You just have to pay attention。 。。。more

A family with many secrets draws the reader into their world- both in the present and back in the 1970s。 This kept me guessing until almost at the end and would have got 5 stars but for the very tidy ending with no loose ends which was rather unrealistic。 The title refers to the significance of terrariums pictured on the cover as well as the metaphorical fragility of the Harrington family。

A very good mystery the Harrington family find a baby in the woods they keep it a secret to raise as their own。 But a body is found in the woods and changes everything。 Years later decided to delve into her past 。。 nothing is like it seems4*

A riveting read about a family with secrets and the twists and turns of their lives。 Encompasses mental health, teenage pregnancies, eating disorders and infidelity。 The story is set in a backdrop of a forest where a foundling baby is discovered。 There is a chain reaction after this event affecting the lives of the whole family。 Years later they all come together again。 The story is full of twists and surprises。 A very good read。
